Information
The Japanese tradition of making origami cranes, then attaching them together, using a string, was the inspiration for our business. The tradition became more popular and well-known after World War II. Here at Y & L's Cranes on a String, we decided to take this traditional idea and make it into a fun, customizable, unique product. Our idea was first born when during a birthday of one of our founders' moms, we decided to give this as a gift. For every year, one more crane was added to the string.
Not only can this be a unique gift, but it can also be made extra meaningful. For someone's birthday, you could give them that many cranes. On your anniversary, you could get that number of cranes in your spouse's favorite color. You could even use them to decorate for a seasonal party by selecting our seasonal special as your color choice.
Our product is made of three simple things: origami paper, embroidery thread, and dedication. We are working to make your experience as a customer not only more enjoyable, but also more interesting and simple. We now offer multiple ways to pay if you don't have PayPal and our cranes come in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. String color can also be changed by request.
So, what exactly is a crane?
An origami crane, or 折鶴 (orizuru) in Japanese, is a relatively small sculpture made of [origami] paper. They are made to resemble real cranes, a family made up of 15 species of bird. The tradition of making this origami dates back to ancient Japan and the art of origami (折り紙).
